The Bethlehem Township Planning and Economic Development Department serves as the hub of the planning, community development, zoning, building code administration and property maintenance and housing code enforcement activities for the Township.
Primarily, the Bethlehem Township Planning , Building and Zoning Department is responsible for both current and long range community planning efforts. Under its current planning function, the planning department administers the Township's Subdivision and Land Development, Zoning and Stormwater Management Ordinances.
Under its long range planning efforts, the Department is also responsible for implementation and monitoring of the Township's Comprehensive Plan 1997 and 2004 update as well as the Traffic Improvements Capital Plan under Pennsylvania Act 209.
Planning assistance is provided to the Township's Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Public Safety Committee and Recreation Committee. The Department is responsible for the administration of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code as well as the Township's Property Maintenance and Housing Code. The Department is assisted by James L. Broughal, Esquire, Esquire, Township Solicitor Scott Pidcock, PE, Township Engineer, and utilizes the services of Code Master Inspection Services of Bethlehem, PA for electrical inspection.
