NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bethlehem Township is currently accepting applications for full-time Police Officer employment. The Bethlehem Township Police Department will be conducting physical fitness testing and a written examination on Saturday, July 12, 2025. To be eligible for testing, all applications must be received and accepted as complete by the submission deadline: 12pm/noon, Thursday, July 03, 2025.
The Bethlehem Township Civil Service Commission oversees the formal examination and testing process for hiring police officers. The process is governed by the Civil Service Rules & Regulations of the township.
The examination & testing process for hiring police officers is a several months long process that begins with the formal notice of an open employment application acceptance period. At the close of the application acceptance period, dates for civil service examinations and testing are set. Testing of applicants begins with a physical fitness examination, which is then followed by a written examination, an oral interview board examination, a background investigation and polygraph examination. Applicants must successfully pass each separate examination step of the process to become certified as eligible for police officer employment. Applicants who successfully complete the entire civil service examination process are competitively ranked on a civil service hiring eligibility list. Open positions within the police department are filled by hiring from the eligibility list.
The Bethlehem Township Board of Commissioners are the elected representatives who govern the township. The hiring of police officers is done by, and at the full discretion of the Board of Commissioners.
